”Melting”
Short description about the project
We got to know the concepts of melting and thawing, as well as cold and hot, with 4-year-old children. We practiced using a new tool, a pipette, and we reflected on and realized what the word pipetting means.
Age group
4.-6.
Instructions
Eventually, a broad learning entity was built around melting, as the project combined different areas of learning and areas of broad competence. The project started from memory. Outside, we explored the snow and made our own little snowmen. Snowmen were also found for crafts, and large crepe paper snowmen were made on the walls of the children’s group in small group collaboration. Snow and melting were studied in more detail in the daycare’s steam room. We practiced using a new tool, a pipette, by pipetting warm water onto snowballs. In the steam room, we also compared and observed the differences between cold snow and warm water using our senses of touch. Winter snowman singing games were also added to the project. The project was documented on a tablet. A group storybook is created using Book Creator using photos, song performances, children’s observations, comments and insights.
